Finding nothing of interest in this tiny storage room, the party move on. There's another door immediately to your left as you exit this room (opposite the main entrance to the town hall), plus another one at the far end from where are you now. (On the right when you initially entered).
I'd have you enter the next room (door on your left), but don't want to get ahead of myself incase someone's checking for traps first. The building is only one storey high, there's no apparent way up or down.

Alyana looks at the rest of the group. Well nothing of interest was in that room. Does one of you want to check the door on the left? I doubt it would be booby trapped but you never know. I would hate to use my healing spells for something that can be avoided.
If no one volunteer, once again Alyana will push the door with her mace.

Alyana pushes the door with her mace. It opens slowly into the room and once again she was lucky as no traps were left for wily adventurers.
The room before you is quite large in size and decorated reasonably opulentlyThe floor is made of oak planks and an expensive looking rug covers the floor. Fine curtains and a large desk with a comfortable-looking chair furnish the room. Shelves line some of the walls and these are filled with books.
Taliea enters the room once Alyana has opened the door all the way. Looking about her she says in a low voice, "I guess this must be... the mayor's office?"

Theodorre enters the room slowly and carefully, as he sees the books, he opens his arms wide with a grin and says, "Ahh, knowledge!" and the half elven wizard starts perusing through the titles to see if anything catches his interest.
Once finished examining the contents of the bookshelf, Theodorre catches up to the others at the desk, waiting to see what kind of information can be gathered. He watches (or does it himself, if no-one posts) as the others open the drawers to check their contents. Theodorre kneels down and checks underneath the chair and desk, knowing people hide things in all sorts of place. As the others pull the drawers out to check them, Theo pulls them all the way out and checks the spaces behind, leaving nothing unchecked.

Alyana looks at the room. Opulent office .... strange for such a small hamlet.
She looks around for anything looking suspicious or out of place or any value.
When Theodore starts searching, she asks him Bumbling T, did you find anything?

Everyone enters the room. While Taliea is busy gazing at the expensive-looking furnishings and speculating what the room might be used for, Theodorre goes and ahead and begins a thorough search of the room (given your detailed description I've assumed a take 20).
The Wizard, being a Wizard heads straight for the bookshelves first of all. Thumbing through the books he finds most of them detail local laws for this part of the kingdom, the kingdom as a whole, trade laws etc etc.
Alyana also takes a superficial look around, nothing looks out of the ordinary at first glance and the only immediate things of apparent value are the furnishings, nothing that looks like it'd be easy to carry.
Once he's satisfied with the books, Theodorre heads to the desk. The drawers contain parchments, inks and such, nothing out of the ordinary or incriminating. Pullling out the drawers, there's nothing hidden behind them. He then searches underneath the desk; he lifts up one side of the rug and notes something strange. The floor boards look somehow different... as if they've maybe been lifted up and then replaced.

The Illumian nods to Alyana.
The office, yes, is wealthy. But that might just be good: That means the gains are healthy For all who take here root.
While the others examine the area, he moves to the window, moves the curtain away and look out thoughtfully, murmuring something rhythmical a few times over, and when he turns around his smile is slightly broader.
Well found, wise man, well found! Like this, I say, we're bound to find the clues we hound.
With these words, he taps the bottom of his cane on the planks, checking if the area under them is hollow.

Alyana kneels to inspect the wood to see if the grain looks different or if the nails look younger. She looks to see if the wood planks are nailed or part of a door.
If the space under the plank is hollow, she offer to smash it with her mace unless someone has a craw bar.

Lone Wolf watches Alyana, crossing his arms and shaking his head slowly, a wistful smile upon his stony face.

Looking closer, Alyana sees that the boards are not nailed at all, indeed there appear to be holes where the nails have been removed and damage to the edges of the boards as if they were levered somehow, but they have now been replaced. They do not appear to form a door, but look as if they could be removed again. Avantiif knocks on the planks and the sound indicates the area beneath is hollow. Alyana, being rather rash, proceeds to pull out her mace and smash the planks. Lone Wolf shakes his head at this but says nothing. Taliea winces a little, but also says nothing and shares a glance with Lone Wolf.
With the damage done, an entrance to a dark tunnel is revealed. The entrance is very small and it looks as though a human could just about squeeze into it. You might have to crawl.

Alyana smiles at the group ' I think my mother must have had barbarian envy when she was pregrant with me. She is proud of herself, gloating like a cat that just caught a mouse.
She looks at the tunnel and shakes her head ' Why would you build a tunnel that ends right in the mayor office? Would that be an escape tunnel? Why would you build an escape tunnel in such a remote, peaceful, insignificant hammlet? '

Lone Wolf frowns at the small hole. "Travelling down would make us quite vulnerable to attack..."

Theodorre looks down into the darkness and taps his chin. The half elven mage says a few archaic words under his breath and four lights blink into view. After a second the lights dance their way into the darkness, hopefully revealing anything and everything.

Theodorre casts Dancing Lights, producing four orbs of light which he sends forth into the newly unearthed tunnel. Thanks to the light you can see the tunnel heads down at an angle and it opens up so that it becomes wider the futher down you go. Taliea lies on her front on the floor by the entrance to the tunnel to examine it closer. She frowns touching the sides of the tunnel and scrutinising it closely, "It looks as if the tunnel was dug out... by a creature with... large claws... hmm..."
