Following the less than desirable outcome of the Party's last adventure some members decided to retire from adventuring or go their own separate way with a new party. Theo and Taliea hit the road together, not entirely sure of where they were going but certain that they would eventually find adventure or people in need of saving.
As they wandered, they encountered minor scuffles - nothing the intrepid travellers couldn't handle. They also found new company, each new companion talking the half-elven Mage and Ranger into allowing them to accompany the duo and in due course, proving their trustworthiness as the days on the road passed.
Currently they are travelling in temperate area which is predominately grassy plains. There are a few sparse deciduous trees. It's late spring and the grass is green. The road you are currently travelling is a dirt road, but it's well worn as merchants use it to deliver goods from farms to the neighbouring towns and villages and vice versa. The towns villages are few and far between, but are comfortably well-off and although not overly prosperous the residents don't view themselves to be in wanting of much.
Eventually the newly met companions spy a small circle of caravans parked at the side of the dirt road up ahead. From where you standing you can see that the occupants appear to human. A man dressed in a long black coat and a top hat appears to be speaking animatedly to a group of 10 or 15 men and women.
Feel free to back track and role-play your character meeting the rest of the party. Then also respond to the situation at hand. Achinca, I wasn't sure if you were sticking with Alyanna or not, but if you are then she of course joined Theo and Taliea.

Avantiif joined the group, glad to have someone to share his tales of heroes with honest hearts, of gods with great goals, and of villains, eventually vanquished, tales of women and men like his new companions, but always tale with a hidden moral and a lesson, aimed to improve the listeners.
"Apparently the merchants there were summoned to a speaker's flair. Let us approach this speaker nearer, so that we hear his voice sound clearer."
As he speaks, the Illumian indicates the gathering with his staff.

Theodorre nods to Avantiif and follows. As they approach, curious on what has the men and women captivated, the half-elf tries to eavesdrop.

Lone Wolf was the last to join the group and is still getting used to them. He nods vaguely at Avantif's words and moves with the others, his eyes taking in the scenes around them as well as in front of them.

The heroes begin to approach the parked caravans. Avantiff takes the lead, with Theo following close behind, listening to see if he can hear what all the excitement is about. Sadly he can discern little more than the fact that the man addressing the crowd is speaking in Common. Also you can see that all the assembled people are human as you at first suspected. They appear to range in age from mid-20's to late 40's. Some members of the group spot the approaching party - seeing them look down the road, the man in the black coat and hat turns to see what they are looking at and stops talking momentarily. They have seen you approaching and are observing you. They also begin talking among themselves in hushed tones. The man in black remains animated although he has lowered his voice.
He... moves with the others, his eyes taking in the scenes around them as well as in front of them. Codeslinger, your post implies the use of the spot skill, if this is the case, please roll and add your modifier (see Puff's post above yours). We use the honour system, so either use a real die and tell us the result or an online diceroller. Thanks.

Alyana was glad that Taliea has decided to stay with her after the disaster of the last outing. She was also happy that Theo, the bumbling wizard was with them. As long as he stayed away from the bottle, he was a great guy. However, if he drank to much, he well ... as least he was a good looking guy, for a non-elf. She had no opinion on the newcomers. Adventurers came and went in her life and she learned not to get to close or she would get hurt badly.
She follows the group towards the caravan. Feeling negative energy from the crowd, she makes sure that her silver holy symbol of Corellon Larethian is well visible. After all, a cleric from the Good Gods should help aleviate some concerns.

Lone Wolf notices the travellers' horses have been put out to graze on the long spring grass while the people are having their discussion. Unfortunately they have dropped their voices too low to be heard.
However as Alyanna makes a display of putting her holy symbol where it is visible, you see a woman in a pink dress point and whisper to the man dressed in black. The group huddle again and then they all turn to face you. The man in black and the woman in pink move to the front of the group and they hold up their hands showing they mean you know harm. Their demeanor seems to suggest that they are inviting you over.
Lone Wolf in particular notes that a few people at the back of the group look nervous, but they seem to be giving the party the benefit of the doubt as you've given them no real reason to believe that you pose them any threat.

Lone Wolf stands aside for Alyanna to lead the party into this encounter. He nods deference to her as she glances at him.

Theodorre walks more towards the back of the group and follows them to the travelers. As he walks he takes in the scenery, everything other than the travelers.

Alyana turns her head and winks at Lone Wolf.
She approaches the group and focus on the man dressed in black. Still holding the holy symbol, she says "May Corellon Larethian Bless You All. We are travellers coming in peace. We sensed some uneasiness in your group and we are wondering if we can help you.

As Lone Wolf falls into step behind Alyanna, she notices her wink met with his ever-present stony face. But she does, however, catch a twinkle in his eyes.

Lone Wolf stands back, letting Alyanna take the lead. Theodorre and Taliea drop to the back of the group, leaving Avantiif in the middle. Theodorre looks about him as they approach the travellers, studying his surroundings, but he notes nothing new or out of the ordinary.
The merchants are all wearing simple travelling clothes. A few carry basic weapons - daggers at their belts, the odd walking stick which could double as a quarterstaff. Catching a glimpse inside some of the caravans as you get close you can see most of them are filled with barrels or rolls of cloth and other products you presume are for sale or trade, as well as food to sustain a group on the road. You also note that there are a few children off to one side of the camp; a young woman appears to be looking after them while the adults were engaged in their discussion.
Alyanna, flirtatious as always, winks at her companion as she steps up. The man in black steps towards her, offering his hand to greet her and her companions in turn. "My name is Lazarou," he says. You see now that he is also wearing a bright white shirt and a red scarf, which he adjusts as he speaks. "My company often call me Papa Lazarou, you may do likewise if it pleases you." "This is my lovely wife, Davina." He says, grabbing the lady in the pink dress by her hand and pulling her foward to introduce her. She gives him a playful smile at the compliment and then also greets you all in turn. She has brown hair, cut into a bob that sits just above her shoulders. "It's a pleasure to meet you all. Thank you for taking the time to speak to us."
With the formalities out of the way, Papa Lazarou clears his throat and gets to answering Alyanna's question of the uneasiness in the group and if there is anything they can do to help. "You are correct, lady Alyanna. As you have probably ascertained, we are a company of merchants. Some of us have been on the road for many years, others less, but recently we have been thinking of finding a place where we may settle to start a new life, raise our children." He glances over at where the children are playing quietly among themselves. "We have been looking for a suitable place but it hasn't been easy. We want somewhere small, quiet, not too close to other towns or cities, but not too far either - trade purposes, you see, but we do like our peace and quiet too and we know each other... hmm..." He seems to realise he is rambling a little bit. "Yes, so, anyway... We heard about a place not far from here - less than half a day's walk. It was a town called Haverbrook. I say was. Word has it that it's been deserted for some time - over a year, perhaps two years. We have been unable to find out why. No-one really seems sure what happened but the residents all disappeared, no-one knows why or where they went. So it might be an ideal place to settle but we need to know that it's safe. That whatever danger or... threat... whatever occured there is no longer a problem. Some of us seem to think that given how long it's been it might be safe now, while others are of the mind that if it's still empty then maybe that's with good reason. The fact of the matter is we can't be sure. He takes a pause to let this all sink in.
Looking you all up and down again, he adds, "We are not warriors. We're simple merchants, some of us are used to dealing with theives on the road, but something that wiped out a whole town? That's more than we could handle." Suddenly he realises he might be misunderstood. Waving his hands in a manner as if to calm your worries, "Goodness, I'm not asking that you destroy whatever you find there, that would be too much! We wouldn't wish to place you in grave danger, but do you think you could... scout the area for us? Just check it out and see if it's safe or if... whatever it is still... exists, is still there. Then come back and tell us what you find."

The somewhat older Illumian bows his well-illuminated head a bit, and expresses his eagerness to help.
"Well met, our brother on the road. I will, if welcome, give my aid, to you, in finding your abode from which will flourish life and trade.
The cause for absence of the hosts from this, your future, I will seek, in spite of beauty that it boasts. But first, my brothers, we must speak.
A plan, mind, only work like this when we are ready for what can go wrong, and nothing like that miss while it is written down. Let's plan."
With the final words, he turns to his allies.
