This is the thread to discuss strategies, marching order, watch order, loot splitting policy and anything related to gaming tactics.

being the party's spellsmith, i wont be doing any fighting so i'll stay in the middle and if you want torches or lanterns carried, i'm your dwarf!
PS - i would like my dwarf to be friends with another PC before the game starts. any offers?
UPDATE#1 - i'm Johnny Nomates! UPDATE#2 - i'm also helping lead a charge against a group of goblin raiders!

Okay, this is only a ROUGH suggestion. feel free to do whatever you want though, i dont want to be playing the game for you after this i'm not going to make any more suggestions for this combat - as once the fighting starts, its every person for themself! (also remember that combat is fluid so we will need to improvise as we go along but this is a general battle plan) - we form up in to two group.
- augustine moves DOWN until he is only one range increment away, probably D9. he has a magic bow now and waits till either goblins spy him (or until the rest of us get to about M13) he shoots at Goblin G1. He can always dive in to nearby concealment in the bushes if he keeps close to that border and the goblins have very good (or lucky) ranged weapons... unlikely they have bows but you never know.
- the rest of us move towards M13... because that spot is one move away from melee combat and also the wagon will provide cover if they have missile weapons. Stadvas at the front, Kyrian and Odlin in the second row.
- once we get to the wagon, do what is necessary. i'm guessing that Stadvas and Odlin (who will be Aid Another-ing) go anticlockwise and engage the goblins. Kyrian stays close behind to heal anyone hurt and also to prevent a flank. Once there is only one goblin or we seem to be in a strong position, Kyrian could go clockwise round the wagon and FLANK a goblin. Augustine shoots any goblin that might try and sneak round and flank us!

Please remember that Stadvas has to move a greater distance to get to M13, and is slowed down because of his armour... This could slow the entire plan down.

It sounds like a grand plan, though one should always be wary of the dice above all else...to say nothing of the DM... -evil grin-
The only thing I would suggest is a cautious approach. Let's not forget that we may have other tools at our disposal, such as at least attempting to speak with them. (Kyrian speaks Goblin actually). Perhaps we can at least try to be neutral here; after all if we're potentially going to wind up in a diplomatic situation, then we really ought to remember that our actions with one band could be relayed back to an entire tribe.
....That, and well honestly Kyrian isn't completely horrified in some respects. To her, if they keep out of her territory, she really doesn't give two shakes of a fig branch either way. Nature does as it sees fit; we're not always supposed to understand.

I somehow don't see making a chat with a bunch goblins that just painfully killed an elf for their own entertainment sitting well with a 'good' character, or with one that hates all goblinoids...

re: movement rate not to worry, odlin is a dwarf ;D and if the goblins engage us before we get to M13 then we'll just have to deal with that. re: parlay interesting point. but i dont think we are neutral/independent in this conflict; we've been hired by Zlak to sort out the goblin problems at Barrows Edge. however, maybe we should NOT strike the first blow (because we are the GOOD guys ) but as Antoine already has a loaded bow and truly hates goblins, i think we could be on to a loser there. plus, the goblins already seem to have murdered an elven merchant caravan, doubt that they want to speak to us. we've already been hired by Zlak to stop the goblins (and he's told us they already that they have turned evil). if we have one prisoner then we can interrogate him. the above not withstanding, i'm cool with moving up to the wagon (will take several rounds, yes) and if they haven't attacked us by then we can assume they will be open to talking possibly. shout out a challenge and see what happens. i'm not about to butcher goblins for my own amusement, our key objective is to get information so we do need to engage them but strike a balance .

You enchanted the bow, Cal, that puts you down for aiding and abetting. I would say go for the sneak attack, Augustine will wait for the slow people to get closer though, at the edge of his 60' range increment, probably in some bushes so he can hide.

so we got 2 goblins and a dog inside a cave.
we want to stop the goblins getting help while we take down the dog and sentries.
we can hope to creep up and attack them but with 3 targets i dont fancy our chances. odlin has no ranged weapons, i think.
without a better plan, i could try and colour spray them but i was hoping to use that for a group of bad guys when things went desperate!

We could attempt to lure them out of the cave one way or another... Attract the dog's attention, hoping the Goblins will go look what alerted it, with a piece of food for example. This way, they're closer to us and further from backup, and, if we're fast enough, we can jump and kill them.
Of course, this is merely a thought.

thats a good plan!
i'd rather go with that. any particular ideas on getting the dog to come out? Maybe we could kill a deer and drag the corpse nearby. Or we could scatter some gold coins. Greedy goblins might come out to investigate and its not the sort of thing that would make them call for back-up first unless they liked sharing!

good ideas. Let me know which one to implement and post accordingly.
As a FYI, the dog looks like a trained guard dog not a pet dog.

A dog is a dog... Also, it could be hungry for two reasons: either it wouldn't be well fed to increase its viciousness, or it could be these guys cut a quarter of the animal's food to sell it. I know there are realy people who'd do that. For a fact. We could attract the dog to get them to move to us at first and then, money to make them come closer and make our job easier.

All I am saying is that a gard dog is trained to make noise and a pet dog might not have that beaten into it.
Just my thought. Post your action. I will roll the dice to see the reaction.

The guard dog could smell us and alert its handlers.
Some gold coins and some fresh game meat might just tip the balance. goblins could be too stupid to pay attention to the barking dog if they see money, they might even make it shut up to stop others from coming and 'sharing' the loot!
ALSO... do we want to attack or parlay?
i vote we knock the guards out (if we can) and question them since jukia speaks goblin.
