Kerraur twitches and even slightly winces when he sees the careless act. The Raptoran takes a quick step away.

Savenleye observes the brazier and carving and thinks about similar situations. After a while, she remembers a story she heard in a tavern about a magical door which needed sand to be thrown at to be open. Sirali inspects the brazier and carving and notices a pattern of hit on the carving as if someone in front of the carving was throwing rock at it.
Dra’gen puts the remarks from his team mates together and throws salt at the brazier. Kerraur steps back as a reflex, knowing the risk to mess around with arcane things.
Nothing happens when Dra’gen throws the salt.
Padre looks at it hum … sometimes it is coded for a special race or class. I wonder if you have to be human. He picks up some salt and throw it. Nothing happens.

Dra'gen shrugs Eh, it was worth a shot. Probably need to say something, some kind of magical activation command or something like that. Sorry, magic isn't really my gig, but given the evidence, I am convinced it's a doorway to somewhere or something. Lets see something...
Dra'gen approaches the carved area and materializes a red blade of energy in one hand. He moves up to the carved area holding the red glowing blade close casting a red glow against the carvings and runs his other hand over the surface while looking very closely for any kind of seam or crack to indicate a mechanical door. As the blade moves, the glow creates shadows which move making the area illuminated seem to come to life.

"So we're sure, this is some sort of portal to transport us to that city? What is this city? Can we figure out it's name?" Ryxikor asks the group as he stands transfixed on the carving looking for some kind of writing. "I wonder if the guard could have told us how this Hangarath operated it, if Padre hadn't bashed his skull in so fast?" he says with a wry smile.
Finally, frustration starting to show, Ryx grabs two handfuls of salt, and throws them at the carving. Then he grabs another two handfuls and walks up to the carving slamming his open palms into the carving, thus grinding the salt into it, "Argghh.." He stops and stares at the carving in the wall. He then silently walks off behind the others, scowling at the carving.

Dra'gen inspects the carving using the light from his blade but all he can do is confirm what Sirali found, i.e. that the carving was hit by grain of salt.
Ryxikor throws salt then crushes salt on the carving but nothing happened.
Padre looks at the group Let's think for a second. What was so special about Hangarath? He was human but I threw the salt and nothing happened. Why would he be able to activate/open the carving and not us? Why couldn't the guards activate it? They must have seen Hangarath throw the salt or use a magic word if needed. Why couldn't they escape?

Magical device operating as a key perhaps? says Dra'gen thoughtfully

"Could you hand me that interesting bracer we found..?" Kerraur finally pronounces, slowly, thoughtfully, and quite hesitantly due to the fact he's certain this is a bad idea. He stretches his hand out, waiting for the item to be placed in it.

Standing behind the group thinking, Ryx suddenly says, "Archanist. Archane spellcasters." He looks to Keraur, "I think you should try to throw sand at it to see what happens."

Padre looks at Dra'gen 'Interesting idea but no one saw a location for a key and we did not find anything on Bishomon which remotely look like a key. But good thinking.
Padre gives Kerraur the bracer. He has now 3 metallic claws protruding from his wrist but they do not prevent spell casting (Think Wolverine's claws).
Padre stands next to Ryxikor I think the rogue elf is right. You got to try. At worst nothing happens. At best you open that door.

"At worst, Padre... Without knowledge what is afoot here, we cannot know what the worst-case scenario is." He rolls his shoulder uncomfortably, moves his wings. "We may be tricked into setting off a trap or something." The Raptoran puts the bracer on, picks up the salt, examines it in his hand and then tosses it at the image, ready for anything. Or at least hoping he is.

"I heard about a magical door that seems kind of like this one," Savenleye said, "that you had to throw sand at to activate. Not sure what the salt is for though..."

Dra'gen says I wasn't thinking a traditional key Padre. I was thinking more figuratively.
As Kerraur tosses teh salt at the image, Dra'gen flares both blades readying himself.

Not knowing what else could trigger the 'passageway', Ryxikor waits with heightened anticipation. He still wonders what city it is and how they can find out.
When the sorceror finally agrees to try the rogue's suggestion and takes up the salt, Ryx's eyes widen a bit and he inhales sharply, holding his breath until something does, or does not happen.

Kerraur is a little skeptical about Padre worst case scenario.
Savenleye reinforces the idea that the raptoran should be throwing the salt to the carving.
Dra’gen and Ryxikor prepare themselves for the ‘worst’ case scenario, one by taking his blade out, the other one by holding his breath.
Kerraur grabs a handful of salt and throw it on the carving. At first nothing happens. Then the carving starts to smoke but the smoke does not propagate. Once it dissolves into thin air, the carving has disappeared and in its place is an energy pulsating portal.
Padre smiles at the group and says Let’s go!
