The guard looks at Dra'gen. "And the genius from upstairs? You killed them. When Hangarath took off, we asked him to follow but that coward ordered up to stay here. May be the others believed in the Dragons crap and whatever but neither of us really did. We pretend to believe their cult to get food, gold, lodging and some free tail. We won't die for the cult. So you drop your weapons, take off and once the air is clear we take off. "

"Well, we would rather you not kill the man. But if you really want to, that's up to you. We'll tell everyone we just arrived too late." Ryx yells back to the captors. "But, then you wouldn't have anything at all to bargain with, think about that! Look around that room your in because you'll never see the light of day again. That room will be your tomb."
Ryxikor hesitates for a moment, then adds, "You really should surrender. If it's only the two of you, let the hostage go, you drop your weapons and come out. Tell us everything you can about this Hangarath, and his followers, and you might be able to get out of here alive."
"I'm willing to leave the decision up to our priest, but he seems upset at some of the treatment you've been dishing out. We just killed almost a dozen of your cult upstairs, I think we could handle you pretty quickly, are you prepared to die today, now?" the wily elf says with a smile.

The guard snickers at Ryxikor 'Of course we know that our odds of 2 vs 5 are not good. Why did you think we took that piece of garbage hostage? I told Hangarath that grabbing whores and bums was safer as no one would be looking for them. Now, I know you are here for him. You are looking for 4 and have only 1 available. If he dies, you guys would look like chump. So you need him. Here is the plan. I am going to test your word. One of us is going to leave the room. If you try to stop him, the chap bites the dust.
Padre looks at the rest of the group "I cannot let them go knowing what they did to Brandy.

Dra'gen says to the guard You know, you kill him and you will most certainly die and I'll make sure it isn't quick and believe me, I will make sure it is most painful. You could take your chances and run, but think about it.. you got a band of elves here, all of us expert trackers. How far do you really think you'll get before there is an arrow lodged between your shoulder blades? Seems to me that if your that attached to living, giving this up and surrendering is your best chance to continue living..
So whats it gonna be? Live or die?

The guard shakes his head. Surrender and what? Assuming you don't kill us, what would you do with us? Deliver to the guards of the City who will arrest us, judge us and kill us? No thanks. If I am going down, you will come back empty handed with a dead hostage. As I said, show me you can be trusted. Let one of us go.

If I am going down, you will come back empty handed with a dead hostage. As I said, show me you can be trusted. Let one of us go. Well now... I don't recall anyone saying anything about handing you over to the guards. We can discuss our options. There are always several ways to atone for wrong doings. I think we would have a much healthier conversation without this whole hostage situation. As long as you hold a hostage, we find it difficult to be agreeable.
Tell you what. We would really prefer if neither one of you left. As a token of trust, I will come out into the open, clearly empty handed. You could shoot me with arrow if you wanted, but I'm willing to take that risk to show you I have no ill intentions. We can discuss the situation like normal people. I assure you, I have no weapons as you can see on my person, and I am no user of magic. We are reasonable and you have my word we will not kill you as long as you are willing to talk. Lets be civil about this and maybe we can come to a much more reasonable agreement. I don't like killing, and I'm sure you don't either. Dra'gen steps into the room empty handed and holding his arms out to his side to show that he in fact has no weapons on him. He then turns around to show he is not concealing any behind his back. ========== Diplomacy Roll(1d20)+2: 15,+2 Total: 17

The guard looks at Dra'gen and hesitates. Then he moves the hostage to the soldier who immediately put his sword on the neck of the commoner. All right. Have the rest of your group stay by the stairs and you move forward The guard keeps his sword up and could swing it toward Dra'gen if needed. What is your offer?

Apparently having made it unseen to just around the corner from the captors, Ryx stands with his back to the wall, watching Dra'gen as he approaches the barricade. Ryx stands there, holding his short bow and one of his poisoned arrows. Smiling, because the rogue knows where the strange elf keeps his dangerous weapons.

Kerraur watches his friend go out into dangerous area and to make sure the predicted arrow-shooting does not happen, prepares to cast a Wind Wall in front of Dra'gen should one of them decide to start firing.

Dra'gen moves forward weapon less. The hostage is now with the soldier. The guard looks at Dra'gen. Ok let's discuss. You let me go unharmed and then the hostage is yours
Spot: DC 15. IF successful The soldier suddenly looks uneasy about the situation and beeing stuck with the hostage. Highlight the text.

Dra'gen shows no sign of fear puts on a casually pleasant face as if chatting with a buddy over an ale despite the guard brandishing the sword Well, Personally I'd like to because frankly, I've got nothing against you. Everyone needs to earn a few gold and sometimes puts their morals on a shelf when times are tough. But here's the rub, you see. The Padre over there is a little more than pissed, as you may have noticed... Dra'gen casually takes a couple of slow steps not toward the guard, but more toward the side wall and rubs his chin as if in deep thought. Now, I don't think he'd be too keen on letting you just walk away. You know how these priests are, high sense morality and all that.
So, what do you say we ask the Padre if you could maybe do some work for the church or something else for an agreed period of time in exchange? I mean, as of right now, you don't have anyones blood on your hands. You would be "cleansing' your soul and wouldn't have to live in fear of being caught and you would have your life. Seems like a fair offer.

The guard, still behind the barricade, laughs hysterically. You mean that if I accept to be a good boy and go to a church or temple, you will let me go. Do you think I am really that naive or are you that much of a do-gooder?
Padre approaches the guard and stands next to Dra'gen. The soldier is looking more nervous as he holds his weapon to the hostage next who looks utterly terrifed.
Padre says Tell me, what about the girl upstairs.
The guard snickers A dumb wh0rr and a heck of a screamer. Don't you agree, Rolf?
The soldier replies I would not know Sir. I gave you my turns with her
The guard laughs again That's right. You had trouble with the idea
Padre looks at Dra'gen How about this? You become hostage with the guard and as a proof of our word, we let the soldier escape. I could leave with that.
The cleric moves away and does a little nod to Ryxikor.

Sirali hangs back trying to keep her breathing calm, but the tension is a lot to handle. She grits her teeth when Dra'gen heads out to the middle of the room, despite, like Ryx knowing where the curious elf's weapons are stowed. She runs through a mental list of things to do if this all goes awry, daze spell, elixir of fire breath, shape shift? For now she stays quiet and hidden at the back of the group. She silently admires Dra'gen's courage and ingenuity. Nicely done, nicely done and smiles despite herself.

Showing no change of emotion, yet feeling a pang of shock at this suggestion from Padre, Dra'gen mentally analyzes the suggestion He doesn't know about the mindblade. I can call them before he even had a chance to react, but there is the little thing of a dagger against my throat. The slightest twitch of panic and I'm a goner. I'm not getting paid for this, but I knew there was danger going into it. Still, why should I literally risk MY neck?
Then past words come back to haunt him. Dammit! Why am I so d**n true to my word. I promised we'd do everything we could.. practically promised to reunite a mother and son.
As always, holding true to his word to a mother he says casually You know what Padre, why the hell not. I almost kinda like this guy He turns to the guard I'm trusting he doesn't kill me Padre. After all, we are handing him his freedom on a platter and I'm willing to give him the leverage to do so.. whaddya say my friend? My throat look more appealing than some common boy?
