Fury mingles with elation as the dwarf resists the urge to choke the breath out of Darax. The wizard realises that the goblinoid's options are limited. While Stadvas has him in a grapple, the other's can assault Darax without worrying about him dodging out of the way*. Odlin wonder if they could pin the enemy, rendering him immobile.
*Darax has no dex bonus to AC against those who are NOT in the grapple. he retains it against stadvas, odlin and everyone else grappling I'm not sure if Odlin is grappling, his grapple roll for last round was d20+1=14. If that beat's Darax's opposed grapple check then 'i'm in' If i'm not grappling already then I'll join the grapple and keep that roll - Darax doesnt get an AoO but he does get to do a grapple check to fend Odlin off. When i do join the grapple Odlin does 1d3 subdual damage (last round if that was last round) or this round if i join this round. If already i joined last round then this round i would like to go for a PIN, meaning Darax needs to beat my (14) else he is pinned and unable to speak, and immobile for 1 round - all Daraax can do is try and break the pin and become grappled instead Darax, Stadvas and Odlin are not prone yet. We can trip him up with an opposed grapple check but everyone ends up on the floor(no AoO) and if we took a -4 on grapple check, the grappler can remain upright afterwards too Achinca, has Darax been lithely stepping away from our attacks or can we guess that he doesn't normally have a dex bonus to AC because of his heavy armour? NB: when grappling and there is a tie, the person with the highest grapple modifier wins e.g Bert rolls d20+4=15, Ernie rolls d20+2=15 but Bert wins because although it's a tie, he has a bigger grapple modifier in my humble opinion, so far.... (1) Stadvas and Odlin have successfully managed to grapple Darax AND IN DOING SO EACH HAVE DONE 1d3+STR SUBDUAL DAMAGE LAST ROUNDimho, if Stad got critical hit with his grapple check then he should get x2 damage on the nonlethal damage (ie 2d3+2 subdual damage last round) (2) Stadvas and Odlin do NOT need to roll a grapple check to maintain the grapple from round to round. Stadvas can just attempt to beat Darax up. If Darax's grapple check is worse than 16 then he takes another 1d3+1 subdual damage. Again, if Darax wins he is still grappled but just avoids the damage. Same goes for Odlin (3) If Darax wants to escape the successful grapple, he has to make a grapple check to beat EVERY grappler (so it's in our advantage to have multiple grapplers because he rolls once and we all roll individually) - we all get fresh grapple rolls because we do not use the rolls we made to do our standard actions for this round (4) Because Darax is in a grapple he doesnt get AoO against new people joining the grapple. To join a grapple you need to use a standard action, Darax doesnt get his Dex bonus if any, AND you automatically grab him (so no roll there) but yuo DO need to beat him at a grapple check otherwise you aren't part of the grapple. winning means you do 1d3+str subdual damage, failing means you aren't in the grapple but Darax does not escape stadvas' embrace (5) stadvas does NOT need to make a second roll this round depending on what Darax wants to do. He might want to grapple the warrior back and break his neck (-4 melee attack if has a light weapon in hand, move action to draw a light weapon (if wins a grapple check) then standard action to attack Stadvas with the weapon) or he could want to grapple stadvas back and do a grapple check to inflict 1d3+str subdual damage (real damage if has imp unarmed strike feat) or he could attempt to break free of the grapple (escape artist or grapple check but every grappler gets a roll to oppose this) hp9/13 grapple mod +1 AC 16 vs Darax (+1 dex, +1 dodge, +4 mage armour)

OOC: a) Here are the answers to the various questions: Stadvas grappled Darax and I added Odlin as an aid another. b) Only Stadvas did do damages to Darax. c) Darax has only a +1 DEX modifier. d) I will grant the critical on the damages from last round.

Initiative: Ryxikor, Augustine, Darax, Stadvas, Odlin, Brettnor
Ryxikor successfully grapples the Hobgoblin giving him more subdual damages.
Augustine tries to join the group grapple but fails in his attempt.
Darax frees himself from Ryxikor and Stadvas but that freedom is short lived. Stadvas goes for another grapple. Darax fails in his attack of opportunity and Stadvas inflicts him more damages as he successfully grapples him.
Odlin joins the fun by grappling the leg of the hobgoblin and providing more damages.
Brettnor moves forward and hit Darax on the top of the head with his clinched fist. The hobgoblin turns limp in the group arms.
Darax is not unconscious in Stadvas’ arm.
OOC: A HUGE thank to Cal for spitting out the rules in clear and concise manners. The rolls were in your favor. Darax rolled high only to free his grapple. After that, he rolled low. Darax is below 0 and has a mix of real and subdual damages.

With a content grin on his face, Stadvas holds Darax. "Yeah, thanks." he mocks the fallen foe, before getting out that end of rope that has proven its worth in tying up goblins and waving it about. "I forgot, who of us ties up people?" he asks. Despite the wounds he has suffered during the fight, the victory has heightened his spirits. "Tie him up, and let's find the lizard. And maybe take off the armour, just in case... We'll need someone to get... Umm... the girl." Leaving their opponent to the others, Stadvas picks up the bow he discarded earlier and takes it in his weapon. The flail goes back to a peaceful position on his belt.
The dice have been with us lately indeed. Congratulations to all!

"I'll go get Urrtarr," volunteers Augustine. He retrieves his bow before going upstairs, not letting his guard down even when the goblins are supposedly no longer enemies. When he reaches Urrtarr, he simply says "We've got him downstairs, he is unconscious, but he will live."
I think we should use as many healing charges as it takes to fill up HP before attacking the black dragon, we might end up using them all up before this is over, but I think we will need all the help we can get. Unless I am mistaken, I am at full health, so I am fine.

Ryxikor stands smiling, glad they finally subdued the hobgoblin. Taking the rope, the elf binds the goblinkin wrists and ankles the best he can.
rope use: 1d20(4)+3=7 rope use: 1d20(10)+3=13
hmmm, hope someone checks his knots

With glee, the little man hops up and down. He kicks the hobgoblin (but not hard enough to cause damage) "who's the daddy now!" Still grinning with euphoria he claps Stadvas on the back. "You were fantastic. A veritable display of stamina and strength!"
Allowing the others to tie up Darax, the dwarf skips gaily around the room before coming to his sense. He asks Ryx to keep watch for Noak while Stadvas guards Darax. "Brettnor, you'd better patch everyone up now until that stick of curing is empty because there is a bigger confrontation to overcome. Let me get a clean shot at the dragon, i can sap it's strength and give us an advantage if luck prevails"
just some battle tactics to consider if you want: i can use ray of enfeeblement on the dragon. that should make it safer for stadvas to engage in melee (well it'll be handing out lots of damage instead of uber damage).
try to avoid standing behind each other in case it uses a breath weapon
using ranged touch attacks such as thrown weapons is a good idea: not flasks of acid.
We need another warrior to flank the dragon and give bonus to attack, Ryx if don't want to volunteer (and get a sneak attack in) then Odlin will rise to the challenge.
If you dont have precise shot then i query the worth of ranged attacks.
getting up close and personal and giving stadvas a chance to get +2 to hit with aid another while he is power attacking will be a good idea

Augustine goes upstairs gets Urrtarr. She comes down and when she sees Darax, she is nervous at first until she realizes that he is hurt but will live. She nods at the group. “You have still not done your part of the bargain to eliminate Noak, thus I will not give you access to my spell book. However, if you want to rest before you go after the worm you can use Darax room. She looks at the rope and shakes her head. “Never seem such bad knots.” She ties Darax better. She leaves the room saying "I will come back to free Darax once you have dispatched the wyrm."
The double doors toward Noak’s lair are large ironbound doors. A large bar blocks it from this side, as if Darax did not trust Noak 100%. A crude drawing on one door shows what might be a dragon eating a goblin. Crudely rendered letters beneath the drawing seen the spell out a message.
Ryxkor approaches the door and translate: “Bad Dragon … acid ... eats goblins … go away …” Basically it is a message to be aware of the black dragon.

Augustine puts his bow on his back, drawing his sword instead, and waits for someone to make the first move.
Puff, does Ryx have ranks in listen? Someone should listen at the door, I can't remember my tangled web password right now, but I can do it if you don't have ranks in it, I know I have some.

Ryxikor leans forward slightly as he watches the goblinoid tie a better knot, if one was to watch, they might see a slight shade of red ease into the features of Ryx. His embarrasment is short-lived however, as he quickly starts to get prepared for the task before them. Once he retrieves his weapons and gets healing from Brettnor and the wand, he moves to the doors to the dragon's lair and asks for quiet. He gently presses his ear against the ironbound oak door and holds his breath momentarily, listening for signs of anything.

Odlin is grateful that they have time to rest before the fight with Noak. He spends extra time distilling arcane craft from his spellbook.
Before they enter he plans on casting Mage Armour on himself then Resistance (lasts one min, +1 saves) on himself & Stadvas and hopes Brettnor will do the same for the others
learn: Mage Armour, Ray of Enfeeblement, Ray of Enfeeblement Resistance, Resistance, Ray of frost, Daze
Odlin will go in the second row or he will lead if no-one volunteers. Once the fighting starts he will ray of enfeeblement the dragon
Achinca, correct me if i've wrongly assumed Urrturr allows us to rest for a day in Darax's room - if we don't have the time then i'll just have my Ray of Enfeeblement and attack the dragon before melee starts, move in and try and give Stadvas an aid another to hit/flank
DM EDIT: Your call if you want to rest in Darax room. By now y ou have sense of the leadership and other forces at work among the tribe. Urrtarr will Darax. How much time you give him to work on Urrtarr to prevent you from crushing his dreans of glory is up to you. Your call.

Augustine volunteers to lead the way into the room, and if the party decides to rest, he will volunteer to keep watch for the four hours he isn't sleeping, a mix of nerves and impatience swirling in his gut as he stares at the door.
How are we going to enter? Everyone should get in flanking positions if they can, I figure, and if we can't get to Noak in the first round, we just all have to spread out and not present ourselves in a line.
We might have the dragon trying to fly, anyone got an idea for how to stop that? Hopefully it won't be able to fly high enough to be out of the reach of melee.

Stadvas simply listens and cleans some former opponent off his flail. He also takes a few minutes to mumble a prayer. "Maybe I should be first..." he finally says, when Augustine suggests to go first. "I'm shiny, easy to notice and might be more useful if Ryxikor wants to sneak around."
If it goes airborne, we retreat somewhere where it can't get us while flying, under a rock or back into this room, so it just has to come back down.

"I don't hear a thing." He says to the others, after trying to listen through the heavy doors. Ryxikor looks around to his companions, making sure everyone is healed and ready. He has always dreamed of being a hero and fighting a dragon, but now, so soon, he hopes they all make it out alive. The elf reaches into his pouch and takes out the flask of oil, after unstoppering it, he pours a little over the hinges on the door, making sure to cover them good. "Don't want any squeeky door hinges giving us away." he says with a wink. He then looks around Darax's room, finally after finding some scraps of cloth, he tears one and presses it into the open mouth of the flask of oil, leaving one exposed end of cloth to light. Ryx then reaches into his pouch on his belt for a tindertwig, he places it snugly between the cloth and the opening of the flask, for easy access, then gently sets his maltov coctail into his beltpouch. Looking up at the others, "Maybe fire will hurt it. I'll try not to hit any of you." he says sheepishly.
Finally Ryxikor turns back to the door, presses his ear to it gently and listens carefully. He then caustiously checks the door lock and handle for any signs of a trap. Breathing easier since he believes there are no traps, the elf checks to see if the door is locked. If so, once the rogue believes it is safe to work on the door, he gets a leather pouch out of his backpack. He unties and unrolls it, to expose a masterfully crafted set of small unstruments that probably look like jewelers tools to the unfamiliar person. Ryx selects two of the tools and begins working on the door lock. He gently sets the two lockpicks into the keyhole and deftly turns each in different directions as he listens for the taletell 'clicking' sound of a locking mechanism.

"Don't toss it if we are next to the dragon, it might splash on us. Just stab it, it should be distracted enough that you can get some stabs in to the vitals." Augustine shifts nervously, his sword hand slick with sweat. He wipes his hand on his trouser leg, and tenses up, like a runner at the starting line.
Remember, the flask of oil would do 1 damage to everyone within 5 feet of the impact. Not much, but I think this will be a tough fight.
Cal, you want to try to flank for/aid Ilya, I will do the same for puff?
