Barrend eats heartily, managing to keep most of it out of his beard. Hearing about the creature, he says "That don't sound like anything natural to me. Some wizard's pet project gone bad?"
What knowledge skill would it be to know what it is? Sounds like a magical beast or aberration, maybe someone has enough ranks to get a lucky roll and know what kind of thing it is.
Gershault mulls this over. "Yes. Yes I think it might be some sort of magic gone awry for I do not think it was in truth a creature made by nature."

Unable to find out exactly the creature is, Taliea tries another tactic: "Is there any way of knowing where it might strike next, or are the attacks completely random?"
"There was only one attack on Icendia but we have not found a pattern. If an answer is there then my tired old eyes are too dumb to see it." explains tha Captain

Alyana spends all her divine magic to heal the injured, wishing she had more. Completely exhausted and mentally drained, she returns to the group "Have you find out more about that monster or have you guys bee nfattening yourself as I helped these poor people as much as I could?
The nurses are grateful for the guidance provided by the priestess. After several hours of tending to the sick, they prepare some blankets and bedding for the group to sleep in a small part of the Hall

Gershault excuses himself and leaves the party to their own devices.

The sorceror, while eating, tries to remember if he has seen anything like has been described or heard about it ever before from other magicians. Being fed obviously stimulates his normally so poorly developed intellect.
Knowledge (arcana) =1d20+1=19+1
Kerzeme remembers that some artificers used their art to animate a creation to do their bidding. Maybe this sounds like one of these pesky 'golems'.

Exhausted, Alyana is mad at the group for just worrying about eating rather than gathering data on the monster lizard. She goes to a well deserved rest in complete silence.
The elven priestess replenishes her energies with some well needed rest. The sound of frightened and injured people punctuate the cold night but the silence borne of fear is overpowering.

Chewing thoughtfully on what appears to be the leg of a lizard, Taliea tries throwing some ideas out at the others to see if they can formulate some kind of plan. "OK, well even if we don't know what exactly we're up against, maybe we can find a way of getting a look at it. Perhaps in the morning we can try to track it down? Once we've seen it in action, we might have a better idea of how to tackle it."

"Good idea. Oughta be careful, though. Don't want to end up its prey before we're ready to fight."

"I think we need to pay this Patron a visit. If he wants to entertain an audience or not. And what is this 'other one'? Is there someone else? Someone who does not live here near civilization but away from it?" As Theodorre eats he wonders what this Patron is. Theodorre isn't to sure himself if he wants to meet this recluse for the sake of the town or to see if he, Theo, can somehow gain knowledge.
From Theo's (and other's) brief interactions with the citizens, the Patron is a magic-user who has a tower within the settlement. His gold helps keep the community viable. Although laird of the land, the decisions are devolved to a council of elders with the PAtron taking very little interest in the day-to-day runnings.

Right before going to sleep, Alyana reacts to Theo's comment
"Theo, we cannot impose ourselves on the PAtron. Whoever that person is, we can request an audience but if he refuses, so be it. Unless we have proof that he is involved with the monster, we cannot go bully our way around. Taliea is right. Let's go look for some track tomorrow and gather some information. Then may be we will have enough data to make sure we need to visit the patron."
She goes down to sleep quite fast and has a dreamless night.

"I really don't see why we can't. If it's his work, it's not likely that he'll just talk to us, and if it's not, that's not our problem, he was just at the wrong time at the wrong place. I'm pretty sure the thing is magical." Kerzeme says. Assuming that everyone accepted his words as correct, and not bothering to check if anyone actually listened, he heads off to bed as well.

"So we kill the village's beni- bene- chief guy, and nobody cares? Ain't likely to happen that way. Bad idea to get ourselves killed over somethin' like that."

"Kill the chief? No, let's go to bed and go out to track the creature tomorrow." Taliea also gets up and heads for bed. Surprisingly she finished the whole bowl of lizard stew. It seems she's used to eating whatever she has to to stay alive.

When; Morning, 21st day of Maitine, 3806EYM Where; Makeshift shelter, Town Hall, Icendia
The evening is uneventful and the night is peaceful at least although the chill from the waste causes bones to ache and limbs to tremble. The hearth is lit but kept low, enough to stave off frost with the wounded allowed to rest closest to the warmth.
Few people sleep that night and a watchful restlessness consumes several of the townsfolk.
When dawn arrives without incident there seems to be an overbearing sigh of relief and the blossoming of small buds of hope among the people.
Gershault has left early with some men to patrol the area and some women have stoked the fire to reheat the stew for the many taking shelter in the hall.
Gather Information checks; From Theo's (and the other's) brief interactions with the citizens, the Patron is a magic-user who has a tower within the settlement. His gold helps keep the community viable. Although laird of the land, the decisions are devolved to a council of elders with the Patron taking very little interest in the day-to-day runnings.
There are a few nomadic goblinoids in the area, Bittersnap an adult white dragon, the dangerous and territorial blizzard bears and a rarely sighted serpentine creature that lives under the frozen lake.
The people manage to mine copper and hunt the bears for food and furs, sometimes trading with the goblinoids. The settlement acts as a way point for explorers and adventurers going in to the wilnderness and earns revenue from this too.
Bittersnap once came to the Patron's tower three years ago but hasn't been back since.
No-one really knows who or what the Patron is as he/she/it has little to do with the mundane people.

Now that they have a little more information, Taliea asks the others what they want to do. "It seems this Patron character is a tricky one to get hold of. We could try but I think it might be a waste of our efforts." Although, she thinks, he could easily be the one behind the trouble and no-one would ever know. "Should we go out and see if we can track the creature? Maybe if the patron IS behind this we can find him near where the Patron lives? Their might be tracks heading to or from his place."
The ranger stays where she is but decides to act by talking to her team-mates about their next course of action. Taliea remembers that the Patron lives in the spooky tower at the centre of the settlement, whereas the 'Thing' seems to have wandered in from the wilderness
