"I was.." is all the wizard got out of his mouth before Alyana started her tirade. Theodorre stops shiort and lets the woman speak her mind. Once she is finished, Theo blurts out, "And where is our payment?" wanting his delivery charge, theo is surprised Palorius sent the crate out without payent first.
Thinking of the building connected to the tower, "That's an awefully large hole in your outside building, doesn't that let in alot of cold air?" he asks truly concerned, for all know Theo hates cold weather. But he also asks, "Do you know of any large, strange creatures roaming the lands around here?"
Did Theo see any books on the bookshelves, if so, do any pertain to golems? Does Theo know it was a golem? or if the gnome made it? knowledge arcana: 1d20(14)+12=26

Lorran's shoulders slump slightly when theo mentions the damage to the laboratory.
"One of my experiments took an unexpected twist. A powerful elemental broke free from my workshop and created a monstrous golem.
It is best that you stay here lest it returns again so that i can protect you. The shipment you bring might help my research in to extracting the elemental from the creature."
bingo! well done!
PS: your employer is Palorius the merchant, not Lorran. he said he'd pay you when you returned. this is not cash on delivery! ;D

The Silver Raven looks at him in disgust. The golem is dead! Now why would you create such a monstrosity?

"It couldn't fly, could it?" Barrend has a look of worry on his face, not wanting to go a second round with the Golem.

Taliea also notes that the gnome and his companion seem rather the worse for wear, but decides not to mention this right now. "Alyana, he didn't create the golem, the elemental did. Calm down." The last added sternly. "Lorran, what exactly did you mean when you said we might be too late?"

"Oh, so that's your work. Well done." Kerzeme 'compliments' the magic user. "I'm sure we shouldn't be blaming you for all that mortal danger your mistake put us in." He gets up, and begins looking around the room. "So where will I be sleeping?"

Lorran looks surprised and asks how the golem, a powerful magical construct, died. When he hears that it fell in to the chasm under the icebridge the gnome looks doubtful.
"The chasm is deep. Deep enough to be the doom of many a mortal creature but the golem would eventually climb out and find one of the other ways across. I think you may have just stalled the monster. I am sorry for the loss of your friend Kurt. He sounds a noble hero."
The magic-user listens to the ranger and explains. "The agent who brought me the elemental had been sparing in her use of appropraite safeguards in an effort to cut margins. As the culmination of my project, the elemental spirit needed to be bound by powerful magicks but the delay in the delivery of key ingredients allowed it to break free from its inadequate constraints and possess materials within my laboratory.
If my experiment had been complete then I would have created an eternal guardian to protect the communities within Icendia and it saddens me to see such destrction wrought upon the innocent."
please remember that you are guests within his home. his henchman can find you basic sleeping quarters. declare you are going to bed if that is the case or you can stay and talk to Lorran more.

Taliea thinks for a moment, more than a little worried about their return journey given that the golem might not actually be dead. She also realises that the gnome is likely no match for the golem alone and hesitates a guess, "I'm guessing you'll need some help to bring the creature back under control?"

Theodorre has been trying to see what is on the shelves, for some reason he can't tell. He now believes his senses are failing him. He feels his forehead to see if he's sick. He's tries to focus again and see what is on the shelves.
OOC: thanks for answering my questions. So when the DM ignores questions does that mean not to ask them or what?
you're very welcome. there is nothing useful for you on the bookshelves. your arcana check doesnt reveal any more info for you than what has already been revealed in earlier DM posts.

Lorran's eye flickers to Taliea's comments. The gnome pulls himself forward with visible effort. "Maybe..."
He licks his lips and clutches the armrests tightly. "Why there is a chance!"
The gnome gulps several lungfuls of air. then steadies himself.
"I could use the ingredients you have brought to fashion a device to weaken the elemental within the golem. It would not bind it nor make it less dangerous but... and this is a theoretical but... it might make the golem less invulnerable. It will take me a lot of effort to channel the energy to make the device work. It would still be a dangerous and strong opponent though. You might want to leave before it comes back."
The henchman moves to his master's side and tends to his exhaustion but the gnome tries to get up "I must go to my laboratory! Bring my equipment after you settle our guests"

The converstation starts to bore the short human. "Well, goodnight. I'm going to go sleep." The sorcerer heads off into the nearest door, expecting the universe to form to his personal needs and a room to sleep in to appear behind that very door.

FAO Kerzeme only (i assume the rest of you guys are still with Lorran)
Kerzeme finds that the sleeping quarters are on the first* floor (*second floor if youre not european). A sparse communal bed chamber with various divans and fur blankets. There is no fireplace but the room is tepid and free of draughts. It might not be rich and opulent but it is practical and refreshing. There is no elaborate furniture but a simple wooden dresser with a magical pitcher that supplies a never ending amount of fresh chilled spring water. A brass lidded basket provides cheese and dry bread and replenishes itself whenever the lid is closed for 5 minutes. Light is provided by two floating magical orbs. The henchman explains that they can be commanded to be "extinguish"[ed], "dim" or "bright". There are enough divans for about eight people to sleep on but plenty of floor space for bedding rolls if need be. There are no windows and no other exits from this room. A privvy is accessed from the landing though.
The henchman warns all guests not to wander at night for their own safety and when he leaves he does not lock the door.

After a long inspection of the divans and a good meal, a very good one even, Kerzeme chooses the most comfortable divan and goes to sleep.

The Silver Raven growls "You are telling me that the thing that killed Kurt is still alive? And you can help us destroy it? You better get going and do what you have to do. I will not rest until the creature that killed Kurt is killed."
The elven priestess turns around and follows the servant. "Can I have a more private place to sleep?"

If you want to sleep indoors then there is no other place
[addendum] exploring the mage's tower is not within the remit of this adventure. if you do go walkabout then let's assume that one of his gizmos or a partially complete spell ritual kills your character or transports you to a far realm ruled by pig-riding halfling conservationists...
