If you are interested in the Tomb Spider and its offsprings, I can give you a copy of the MM4 pages.
Before we move on the next room, I am waiting for Noda and Puff to see if they have their character do anything in the spider web covered room.

Hmm, I didnt see this post, Ryx would have wanted to burn the webbing and see if anymore people were caught in it. We could have lit webs and moved back quickly before swarms could attack us.
Also I thought it was kinda funny I saw where Cal said back in Feb in the loot thread, saying stad should take the magic flail in case we run up against a monster that needs a magic weapon. Is this something we forgot?

Sorry my leveling is taking so long, I've been busy, and now that I sit down to it, I notice that I painted myself into a corner by making an elf ranger, because now any other class I take causes an XP penalty for multiclassing with a level gap of more than 1.

I remembered about the magic weapon but only after Stadvas had already applied the oil.

I was not sure if I told you that the flail was magical but I good catch Puff. Good idea with burning the webbing. This is why we need you full time in the game!!!!
Hoep your knee is getting back into shape.

yeah it is Alain, thanks It's starting to feel better. I have been reading up on multi-classing, seems I had forgot about the -20% to XP for more than 1 level difference. Personally I think this sux for some cases. Like mine a rogue taking fighter, not much difference to me just fighting more. If he was a rogue taking a class in wizard i would understand more, although wizard is my elf's favored class, <sigh> If this was my game i would say no penalty, any other opinions? ??

I also like the no XP penalty rule, I think they nailed that in D20 modern. Of course, classes had 10 levels at most in that game, so that might have had something to do with it.
Of course, it is Achinca's call.

I think this is a dumb rule. I did not know it existed until you guys pointed it. I NEVER multi-class because I am not a munchkin and like to play my character straight up.
The goal is to have fun. Noda, if you want to take a class in wahtever oter hthan ranger, go ahead. I am the master of the XP and unless you die, you are not losing any.
My only condition is that the classes must be from the PH1

There are prestige classes to help people who wish to 'tweak' their characters with varied abilities. There is good reason for the XP penalty and veterans of 1st and 2nd edition D&D already know that multiclass had always had restrictions. I think it is a sensible rule and an important perk that allows humans to multiclass freely but limits demihumans who already have a variety of race benefits. however, the DM is always right

EVERYBODY HOLD THE PRESSES AND THEIR CHARACTER SHEETS UNTIL I AM DONE INVESTIGATING!!!!!
I smell a munchkin at work so I need to get into deep details why WOTC dreamed of that rule.

Must be the smell on me, I've been nosing around the charOp board, I make a habit of looking at the handbooks when I'm making a character, so I understand the class better.
Cal, humans really don't need another bonus, they are one of the best races already. Just take a look at the charOp boards, the human is the most popular race from the PHB, because of the extra feat and extra skill, as well as the free multiclassing. The PHB elf (as opposed to the monster manual ones) is one of the least popular, because of the wizard favored class and the hit to constitution. I think the only one less popular is the half-elf, even with its free multiclassing, nobody likes it.
What I want to end up as (if by some miracle we end up getting to 20 after another 10 or 15 years) is a ranger that rides around on his animal companion, is good at scouting and tracking, and attacks four or five times a round for a decent amount of damage. If I were trying to make a really strong character, I would end up with a ranger that rides around on his animal companion, is good at scouting and tracking, and attacks ten to twelve times a round, for 1d8+4d6+who knows how much magical enhancement damage per attack.
The character I started would not be useful at higher levels without multiclassing, I don't want to be a super-powerful character, I just don't want to weigh the party down when Odlin starts throwing around fireballs like candy and Ryx is doing +5d6 sneak attack damage per hit.

only problem with riding an animal compaion is that i think our next adventure is the underdark. I guess after a while it would be useful as..... food

I've never played in the underdark, aren't there any plant growths a horse could chow down on? If not, I could just go with a wolf or something for now, it won't mind eating what it kills.
The plan eventually involves getting darkvision (horizon walker and possibly shadowdancer PrCs), but it would be at earliest two levels from now, maybe I'll get a wand with part of my loot.

The problem is a horse could never make it in the underdark. We'll be walking in caves and tunnels, rocky uneven ground. A horse would break a leg in no time
Most plant growths need sunlight I believe
