Let me return to the drawing board for a moment. How does 18 str, 16 int, 11 cha and 10 in the rest sound? sounds good. although i think you might have overspent & i'd be tempted to put the 11 in to CON so you get one extra hp your options are *18,14,11,10,10,8* *18,13,13,10,10,8* 18,13,11,10,10,10*17,16,11,10,10,8* *17,15,13,10,10,8* 17,14,12,11,10,10*16,16,13,11,10,8* 16,15,14,11,10,8 16,14,13,12,11,10personally i would go for the ones marked asterisk as most char builds only require two good stats. i've played a warlord and they are a lot of fun. make sure you pick a race that allows you to get a +2 bonus to strength (eg human, dragonborn, goliath, half-orc, shifter longtooth**) so you end up with a final score of STR20 for +5 hit and damage or STR18 for +4. ** the last 3 races are cool and boost STR but their other boost is for a useless stat for warlords so i cant see why they would be better than human - that extra at will power feat and skil seems to make a big difference as well as +1 bonus to FORT, RFLX & WILL! the dragonborn is a good role-playing choice for warlords but they favour CHA instead of INT so you might be a better inspiring or bravura warlord then a tactical warlord. however, play whatever you like as all combos are good!

Thanks for the racial advice, but I wanted to play a deva, which is why the first variant had a 20 in the ability where I have a bonus. The first set, with the 8 put into Wis, gives me the aforementioned points.

So campaign premise;
The heroes are all adventurers or have been for the last 2 years. Some have been wanderers for many more years than that.
In the last 6 months the individual heroes have been working on their own until about 3 months ago when the Deva Warlord Ilam brought a group together of old associates to help him seek fame and wealth in the Star Mountains of Gray Vale.
The adventurers are travelling to Loudwater to start their search for a valley hiding a marvellous treasure.

Before I finalise my character, just want to double check with you guys: I did want to play a controller (use my abilities to hinder the enemy), but if you guys would rather have a leader (use my abilities to buff you), just let me know. I really don't mind changing. Cal, I will try to get my final character to you asap, sorry I have been a bit distracted but I will finish it soon! She-Elf

second guessing what is needed or enjoyable can be tricky.
why dont you build the char the way you think best then then later you can tweak it. i'll let you make ANY changes other than level, gold, gear, favourite colour

character development:would like to get for each character (in order); - motivation - your fundamental reason for adventuring
- interrelationship - a tie between you and at least one other character
- contrast - a source of conflict between you and another character
characters failing to live up to their motivation become distracted (grants combat advantage, -2 saves, loses healing surge after a rest and/or cant regain action points - depending on how distracted i think you are). a motivation can be a great means to RP your character and is not intended to be a DM tool to harass players! an inter-relationships explain why you all stick together through hell and high water. when the going gets tough, why do these heroes stand together. this is why. a contrast is just a way to provide amusing banter. Think of the A-team with the weekly tussle between Murdoch and BA - however BA wouldn't blink before jumping in to help Murdoch despite their contrast. it would be nice if everyone picked different people for their inter-relationships and their contrasts. and just because someone makes you their contrast doesn't mean you have to make them your contrast also! also, try and pick inter-relationships and contrasts based on a character's motivations. as it is a step-wise process, i now need motivations for everyone

Motivation: Ilam was born to fight evil. Literally, since that was the purpose the entire Deva race has been created. He was born to fight evil not just his entire lifetime, but his many lifetimes over and over. Once, it had been because that was his higher calling. Higher callings only last so long. Then, he was driven by the zeal and hate for all that is wrong in the world. That, too, eventually got old when he started recognizing every battlecry he spouted as something he had said many times, and something that had been proven wrong many times again. His actions have been lead by loyalty to the nations he had fought for earlier. But nations turn to evil, and he found himself on the other side of the battle lines, and to fight everyone he had once faced, even anyone he merely remembers having once faced, would be to be at war with the entire world.
What's left for the warrior, the born champion of good, to fuel his actions? Not much. It's just that, eventually, he got used to his lifestyle. This childhood, he was like many other children: small, overflowing with joy, occasionally mischievous. He liked swinging a stick and calling himself a knight. And he remembered things. During the first years, these dusty memories were hopelessly outshone by the bright impressions of a young mind. After these happy years, however, his childish dreams of being a hero were coupled with the realization that he had been one before already, and made him take up arms. For his higher calling. Against evil. Out of loyalty. Neither of the three lasted for long. But with the memories of long years, ages, of fighting evil, and some experience this lifetime, he began seeing life as a series of bad guys to be fought. With less compassion than a champion of good would be expected to have, for he is no longer so much a champion of good as merely its weary mercenary, he swings his blade at evil and marches on on through the world that he has seen much younger.
For an interrelationship, I think part of the routine Ilam has gotten used to is not just fighting, but being a soldier. That is, fighting in an army or at least a group. Because of that, having another sword-swinging tin can next to him is a familiar, and not unpleasant feeling. Feels a bit like home.
I'm not sure about the contrast yet.
